IRCO’s Asian Family Center hosted Asian Cultural Night: Strengthening Families– Celebrating 16 Years of Asian Family Center last Friday night, May 14th. The event combined over 500 people (including community leaders, elected office holders, business owners, and AFC clients) coming together to promote cultural awareness, celebrate the contributions of Asian Pacific Americans, enhance support for AFC programs, and celebrate AFC clients and communities. The evening featured a full Chinese dinner, lively entertainment, and substantial raffle packages.
This year’s event was especially important as the goal was raising funds to acquire a new building that will be the IRCO Family Center (IFC). IFC will house the AFC, Africa House, IRCO’s children’s, health, anti-poverty and community development services and will also share the space with other governmental and non-profit agencies.
The night was a universal success. Hundreds of community members showed up to show their support.
Senator Ron Wyden spoke at the event and stated “AFC is sixteen years old, what a wonderful service to Oregon and this community…AFC has become the epicenter of this API community and its services… IRCO and AFC, you have my support all the way!”. Thank you Mr. Wyden and all of the performers, community members and IRCO staff who came together to make this years event a wonderful success!
