The EES goal is to provide the best match between job seekers and employers to develop a productive working relationship. This is accomplished by evaluating the abilities, interests, educational aspirations and barriers of the participant at the time of the initial intake into the EES program. Assessing the needs of the refugees prior to the job placement contributes to the success of the program and the positive partnership between the client, the employer and EES.

Career Development Services are provided for the first ninety days after employment begins. This employer assistance has proven to be a huge contributor to the job retention of the client.

Resumption of Previous Profession

For clients wishing to resume their previous profession, the Career Coach will work with the client on researching the re-certification requirements, availability of trainings and the financial needs of the individual. Career Coaches will be available for those clients that are in need of assistance in completing the admissions and financial aid requirements. In some cases the clients have expressed a professional interest in a certain line of work so arrangements will be made to meet with employers for an informational interview to discuss the job in more detail.

Intensive Employment Service staff is available to aid in obtaining documentation of the barriers or limitations that may be needed to provide the client with suitable employment that fits within their capabilities.

Participants will receive support services from the Coordinated Assistance to Support Employment (CASE) project. CASE may approve transportation support by providing Tri-Met bus tickets or payment for gasoline expenses to enable the participants to accept positions where transportation is a barrier. For those that qualify, vouchers will be issued for EES participants to enter employment or to remain in existing employment. Support may include such items as work clothing, work footwear, tools, a food handler's card, safety gear, non-prescription eyeglasses. Information and referral services are also available to enable low income participants to access mainstream services.
