Program Summary

Through a grant from the State of Oregon, IRCO runs the Youth Employment Services Program (YES) and the Youth Empowerment Program (YEP), which provides employment services to immigrant and refugee youth who are in school to remain in school, by providing them with summer and after school employment opportunities that enable the youth to help their family attain self-sufficiency without having to leave school.

Workforce Investment Act (WIA)

Program Summary

As part of the federal Workforce Investment Act and through WORKSUCCESS Inc., IRCO's Youth Workforce Department runs the WIA program for African and Slavic youth ages 14 to 23 and the High Growth/ High Demand program for young ex-offenders entering the workforce or educational institutions. These programs seek to assist young people in making successful decisions about their futures through skill building, academic support and career guidance. IRCO's bi-lingual/bi-cultural Career Counselors and Instructors work with youth and their families to provide educational, pre-vocational, and occupational training services that lead to employment, post-secondary education and further career development.

Schools Uniting Neighborhoods (SUN)

Program Summary

IRCO is proud to be a part of Multnomah County's Schools Uniting Neighborhoods program. IRCO runs three SUN schools in Southeast Portland: Gilbert Park, King and Lent Elementary Schools in Southeast Portland. IRCO's SUN Schools provide site based services such as extended day activities, family engagement, and community involvement at Lent, Gilbert Park and King schools and the surrounding communities.

In accordance with Multnomah County's SUN Schools Intiative, IRCO's SUN programs seek to: improve the lives of children, their families and the community through partnering with local school communities to extend the school day and develop schools as "community centers" in their neighborhoods.

Successful Schools Transition

Program Summary

Funded by a grant from United Way's Successful Kids Program, IRCO's Successful Schools Transition provides academic support and high-school preparedness for 8th graders at Clark School. IRCO's bilingual/ bicultural staff work with young people and their families to better succeed in school, both academically and socially- especially in understanding issues related to high school transition. Staff work closely with their clients to find solutions to educational challenges through tutoring, homework clubs, parent workshops, and individual consultations with teachers, counselors, parents and the students.

In School Program for Immigrant and Refugee Education (INSPIRE)

Program Summary

INSPIRE is funded by the City of Portland's Children's Investment Fund (CHIF). The INSPIRE program serves Latino, Asian-Pacific Islander, and Slavic 4th -8th grade children and their families at three schools in Southeast Portland: Lent, Marysville and Clark Schools.
