Program Summary

INSPIRE is funded by the City of Portland's Children's Investment Fund (CHIF). The INSPIRE program serves Latino, Asian-Pacific Islander, and Slavic 4th -8th grade children and their families at three schools in Southeast Portland: Lent, Marysville and Clark Schools.

Academic Support

IRCO's bilingual/ bicultural staff work with young people and their families to better succeed in school, both academically and socially. Staff work closely with their clients to find solutions to educational challenges through tutoring, homework clubs, parent workshops, and individual consultations with teachers, counselors, parents and the students.

After-school Programming

IRCO staff, with the assistance of dedicated volunteers, conduct after school programs that include tutoring, mentoring, homework support, culturally specific groups and classes, gender specific leadership groups and other activities at Clark, Lent and Marysville.

Recreational and Enrichment Activities

Included in INSPIRE's academic programs are recreational and enrichment activities, including basketball and soccer clubs, field trips to local area colleges and universities, dance classes, rock climbing and various other outings and events to help engage young people and their families.

Parent Involvement and Outreach

IRCO's bilingual/ bicultural staff also work closely with parents to enhance their knowledge of the US educational system and to facilitate various ways for parents to support their children's educational goals.
