Program Summary
Funded by a grant from United Way's Successful Kids Program, IRCO's Successful Schools Transition provides academic support and high-school preparedness for 8th graders at Clark School. IRCO's bilingual/ bicultural staff work with young people and their families to better succeed in school, both academically and socially- especially in understanding issues related to high school transition. Staff work closely with their clients to find solutions to educational challenges through tutoring, homework clubs, parent workshops, and individual consultations with teachers, counselors, parents and the students.
After-school Programming
IRCO staff, with the assistance of volunteers, conduct after school programs that include tutoring, mentoring, homework support, culturally specific groups and classes and life skills and high school preparedness workshops for 8th graders at Clark.
Recreational and Enrichment Activities
Included in IRCO's academic programs are recreational and enrichment activities, including basketball and soccer clubs, field trips to local area colleges,universities and high schools, dance classes, and various other outings and events to help engage young people and their families.
Parent Involvement and Outreach
IRCO's bilingual/ bicultural staff work closely with parents to enhance their knowledge of the US educational system and to facilitate ways for parents to support their children's educational goals surrounding the transition into high school.
