General Information
The International Language Bank (ILB) is a financially self-sustaining, service-oriented department of the non-profit Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO). ILB's purpose is to provide affordable, high-quality, and culturally competent translation and interpretation services, to individuals and institutions across sectors of the community in Oregon, Southwest Washington, and beyond.
Background
In 1977, IRCO became the first language services provider that addressed the needs of refugees in the Portland Tri-County area. In 1987, the department providing these services became known as the International Language Bank (ILB). We have operated a fee-for-service language interpretation and translation program for over 20 years.
General Services and Clients
ILB specializes in culturally competent translation (written) and interpretation (spoken) services, done by and for members of the community.
Our translators and interpreters are not only language professionals, but also members of local immigrant and refugee communities, so they are intimately aware of their communities activities and concerns. By combining the local expertise of community members with the global scope of an established translation and interpretation firm, ILB is able to provide for-profit companies, government agencies, legal service providers, social service agencies, medical clinics and individuals in Oregon and throughout the United States, with high-quality language services they need to build bridges to the communities they wish to reach.
